Database server upgrade
by Willow Fiddler - Monday, 17 January 2011, 02:34 PM

21 communities will be receiving new equipment to support an ugrade to the current database management systems.

Rack enclosures will secure the new server system that includes a server, switch and UPS.  This will give faster access speed to each school's database system as well as access without internet connection and in the event of equipment failure.  Networking for each school's database will be performed in each school by the FNSSP Community Liaison Workers, with K-Net's database centre in Sioux Lookout providing backup services for each database system.

Shipment for the new equipment began last week from Sioux Lookout.  The installation of the new server will be conducted in partnership between K-Net and the FNSSP Community Liaison Workers.  This will take place between now and the end of the school year.

I received 2 boxes: Have no idea what the heavy one is but the other smaller box contains cables & the Netgear 24 port ethernet switch.

Good morning Lisa,

I would suggest keeping the boxes somewhere safe for now.  The rack enclosures that will house the equipment you've received is not being delivered until later next month.  Once you receive those, one of the K-Net tech's will be traveling to your school to help you install smile

Have you identified where the new server could go?

Is lac seul receiving just one server or is each of our three communities getting one? Sorry I have been so out of touch.

Hi Evange,

Lac Seul has received one server to support all three schools.  It has already been installed at the new elementary school.
