Promising Practices in Aboriginal Education Website | |
FYI ... Everyone is invited to REGISTER at http://www.maei-ppw.ca to join the mailing list for this online resource. From the web site ... Welcome to the Promising Practices in Aboriginal Education Website, sponsored by the Martin Aboriginal Education Initiative (MAEI). MAEI’s guiding vision is to empower Aboriginal students with the knowledge and confidence they need to complete secondary school and to continue their education. MAEI is currently sponsoring the Aboriginal Youth Entrepreneurship Project, the Accounting Mentoring Project, and now the Promising Practices in Aboriginal Education Website, a web-based Aboriginal education clearinghouse to foster the exchange of promising classroom practices. This website will allow educators, researchers and others to learn from the experiences of others about strategies described elsewhere that have been found to be successful in enhancing learning opportunities and improving educational success for Aboriginal students. We will regularly update and add new material to the site. Materials posted will be in English and /or French, as they are received from their source. By registering you will receive these updates directly as they are posted. Please contact us at:info@maei-ieam.ca if you have any relevant research, elementary or secondary classroom practice that you would like to share with others, and/or if you are interested in finding out more information about our initiatives. Sincerely, The Right Honourable Paul Martin |

Dr. Carlana Lindeman provided Margaret Angeconeb and myself with an update on her work with the Martin Aboriginal Education Initiative today. Visit http://www.mai-iam.ca/ for more information about this initiative. Under CURRENT INITIATIVES, Carlana described the different efforts being made to improve educational opportunities for First Nation students across Canada. The MODEL SCHOOLS initiative includes two Ontario First Nation schools located in Kettle and Stony Point First Nation (Hillside School - http://hillside.ca) and Walpole Island First Nation. It is hoped that their work in Literacy and Numeracy will help guide other First Nation schools in supporting effective and successful learning opportunities and experiences for students, parents and staff.
