Free Children's Storybooks Online

Today I came across a website that offers free access to children's books to be downloaded.  The artwork is fantastic that goes along with the text.  This is a very useful tool if you have a projector or smartboard in your classroom to display the book for your entire class to view as you read it together.

There are also interactive books where students can click on each word of the book and hear it being read aloud.  Students can here the words that they may be having difficulties with.

There are various categories young children, older children, and young adults.  The young adults section can be printed off for each student to have a copy.

The "Free Storybooks Online" website can be used anywhere so parents with computers at home could download books with subjects that appealed to them and their children.  Isn't that a great idea??  Maybe the Community  Liaison Workers could suggest this when they make their home visits.

two of my favorite sites are:
starfall.com
and
learningpage.com

these sites are free to join and they have great resources in PDF format that can be downloaded and saved. The only unit resources that I didn't bother to download was the money and measurement unit in the learning pages because they use American money and also standard units of measurement. Otherwise they are great.

starfall
has little booklets and literacy based workbooks to go with each story. This is good for the students are just starting to read.

learning page
has many types of units from a JK to grade 3 level that are theme based and are literacy, math, and science based.

Last year I used http://storybird.com/members/toronto/ to help my grandchildren write a story based on someone else's art. It was a very positive experience for all.
