Videoconference: Matching Readers and Text
by Douglas B. Rogers - Friday, 17 September 2010, 04:05 PM

On Thursday, September 23, at 4:00 p.m., Student Learning Assessment and Performance Measures Lead Dr. Doug Rogers will present a session on Aligning Literacy Assessment and Instruction: Matching Readers and Text.

Participants will have the opportunity to see how to use a word list test and levelled books to find a young student's independent, instructional, and frustration reading levels and to analyze the oral reading to learn how to help the student read more words directly and by sounding them out. This is a practical demonstration of how to take and mark what is sometimes called a running record.

The demonstration will be followed by a Q and A session.

Attached is a brief handout that participants might want to read before the conference. If you would like more of the material presented in the videoconference, please contact drogers@kerc.ca.

Please let Serena know if you will participate in the videoconference by calling the KERC FNSSP office (10866-326-1077, ext. 20) or e-mailing skenny@kerc.ca.

Good morning Doug ... I visited http://www.readinga-z.com ... WHAT A GREAT online resource for teachers and parents to use with the young ones.

In your handout you reference three attachments at the end of the document. Can these documents be uploaded to the Reference Library for everyone to access?

These are the 3 documents:

  • San Diego Quick Assessment
  • Book Level Comparison Chart for readinga-z.com and Other Leveling Systems
  • Dolch Sight Word Test
