Education Information System Session - Thunder Bay March 8 & 9, 2010
by Angie Morris - Tuesday, 2 March 2010, 12:14 PM
Good Morning everyone!

Well I've posted this letter from Chiefs of Ontario office. I'm not too sure who has received it in their communities but we've made it available on this site for you to download and review. Notice is attached to this discussion forum.

We are encouraging you to forward this information to your Principal, Education Director, Chief and Council. Send a representative and make sure they ask a lot of tough questions.

Basically it's INAC's Regional Consult ion with our First Nation communities on their NATIONAL database and they want the First Nation community's VALUABLE INPUT and CONCERNS on it.

So encourage someone to attend and if need be brief them on the FNSSP project and this "consultation". I encourage you to show them the recording from this morning's meeting for more information.

I'll be posting that recording once its made available to me.

Also please note that we are working on getting this "consultation" video conferenced and web streamed for those who are unable to fly down to Thunder Bay. I'm also encouraging you to ask the contact person for this session to be video conferenced.

Contacts Janine Willie, janine@coo.org
Sally Hare, educationassistant@coo.org

If you have any questions please ask me in this forum and I'll do my best to get you some more information/answers.

Thanks for beginning this discussion Angie ... I thought I would include the Registration form as well for those people who are selected by their community to travel to this session and need to register for it.

I did speak with the COO office after our v/c meeting this morning. Sally Hare did ask about getting this meeting online. I did offer that the KO-KNET would do all the required work to get this one online. So she is going back to check again to see if this is acceptable to everyone.

I understand the COO sent the invitations to each band office. So someone at the Band office has this information about this workshop. I think it is important for everyone to spend a little time trying to make sure that everyone at the Band office knows about the work that each of you is doing with the FNSSP project so whoever goes to this meeting with COO and INAC are able to highlight your work at the school.

good afternoon, Angie

with regards to next meeting, I think anytime Wednesday would be good for me, as there is a chance I may be one of the reps being sent to the EISS in Thunder Bay next week with the Education Director.  But it would be nice if it was online/webcast.

that's my input in regards to next week's meeting.

As discussed during the meeting this morning, Darrin Potter (KIHS principal) is a member of the AFN / INAC expert group on their proposed Data Management System. We just received the following diagram from INAC describing this system that reflects some of the feedback provided by the expert group.

INAC Education Information System Proposed Concept - Feb 2010

As well, the powerpoint presentation about their Education Information System that was presented during the January meeting is attached for everyone's information.
