Hi everyone,

Last week at Pelican Falls, our leadership class (and Desta) helped me put on a literacy cafe.  It was an idea that Desta had tried a couple of years ago and we thought we'd give it another go.

Starbucks generously donated coffee and cups to the event, and the leadership class baked a ton of goodies.  We had different literacy-based stations for the kids to enjoy.  One area was filled with magazines and books for students to read, another area had a Friends  dvd playing with the sound off and subtitles on (this was really successful).  We also had a Wii Wheel of Fortune station and a board game area with Boggle, Scrabble, and bananagrams.

The cafe was a great success and the students were all actively participating in the literacy stations.  It was a great way to make literacy FUN! If you're looking for a way to engage your school in literacy this may be something to try!
