We now have twenty teachers at four school using JUMP Math! JUMP Math (jumpmath.org) is a numeracy program started in 1998 by mathematician, author and award-winning playwright John Mighton. “JUMP” stands for Junior Undiscovered Math Prodigies, a reflection of Mighton’s belief that all children can be led to think mathematically, and that with even a modest amount of attention every child will flourish in mathematics. JUMP Math is a registered charitable organization with the goal of promoting a numerate society. JUMP Math provides a complete, Ontario-curriculum compatible mathematics program for grades 1 to 8. The teacher resources are downloadable for free. Student workbooks, two per student per grade, are ordered at $10 each. We selected JUMP Math because it has been shown to work and we believe that it is well-suited to our students. Kwayaciiwin Education Resource Centre will provide the half-day of training that is required to use JUMP Math. We will also order and provide (free to your school) the workbooks. It is easy to change from your current program to JUMP Math. There is an introductory unit that helps both teacher and students learn the program. The lessons are complete and easy to use.
