The fantastic “Writing Through The Lens” project in the Literacy Resource Library (http://meeting.knet.ca/mp19/mod/book/view.php?id=2459) made me think about ways to include digital cameras and photographs in mathematics (numeracy). Here is what one educator said:

Would your students associate digital cameras or images with math? This is one of the reasons why they can be such a powerful tool in the mathematics classroom--they change the way students view math. Interesting and engaging projects can be designed around the use of digital cameras and images, projects that have the potential to motivate students at a far greater level than a simple worksheet. Indeed, digital images can make many concepts come alive. In addition, the selection of subjects and their use requires critical thinking and reasoning on the part of students. I have attached some activities that use digital cameras in math instruction. Please share your ideas. If you use these activities, I’d love to hear from you!
