Vision for Kwayaciiwin Education Resource Centre

We envision Kwayaciiwin as:

  • Providing a strong leadership role in developing a unique education system for our District, that addresses the cultural and linguistic values of our People
  • Dedicated to the development and delivery of education programs which will enable our students to confidently respond to and benefit from life’s opportunities and challenges
  • Responding to the education needs of the communities and building capacity to address emerging societal trends and issues
  • An agency evolving and developing into an education centre that provides a comprehensive spectrum of education services to the First Nation communities it serves

MISSION

We believe that the Kwayaciiwin Education Resource Centre under the direction and authority of a governing body set in place specifically for the centre by the district Chiefs will provide to the communities of the Sioux Lookout District education services that foster excellence.

MANDATE

The Kwayaciiwin Education Resource Centre will:

  • Provide quality and culturally relevant programs and resources
  • Deliver culturally appropriate professional development and training
  • Be compatible with holistic service and delivery concepts
  • Deliver programs that are First Nation - language and culture
  • Deliver programs that ground our children in who they are - identity
  • Have the capacity for planning, setting budgets, implementing and delivering First Nation education
  • Have a clear level of authority to plan, determine and establish budgets, authorize others to deliver appropriate programs and services
  • Address the prevalent provincial landscape of education currently in our communities and create a strong First Nation education system
  • Work with our communities in developing Anihshininew curriculum and assist in implementing it
  • Establish a right relationship with all member First Nations: a treaty between nations
  • Provide a standard set of services to all member communities and will have the capacity /mandate to provide additional and special services to those communities needing such services
  • Establish and maintain a sense of community ownership and trust
  • Develop an appropriate environment to be able to work effectively with all stakeholders
  • Have the capacity to add ‘new elements’ in order to address emerging and developing needs
  • Develop and deliver services with full and complete consultation with its member First Nations
  • Deliver all services with complete transparency
  • Establish partnerships with other institutions.
