I just wanted to make sure to let you know that you were hired to be a support for your school(s). Go talk to your supervisor to see what work he/she has for you to do. It could be anything from assisting in a class, answering phones or finding out what Computer and Network stuff needs to be tended to. Please read some of your fellow youth workers activity reports to get ideas on what work you could be doing as well. There needs to be a lot of self motivation in order to be successful in this position so I'm hoping you can find that within yourself to do so. I always ask people to try and see themselves in the bigger picture that surrounds them. There has never been enough funding for our First Nation schools and as far as I can tell there hasn't been any specific funding for Computer technicians. If Computers and technology are not your forte then don't worry, just keep plugging along and pick up what you can. I urge you to review the Alison Training sessions to help teach yourself some skills. A lot of this training will have to be on-line, our travel budget was cut from this funding program so we can't have an in person training session. This could be the last year that we get youth employment funding so make the most of it. We have run this program for well over 10 years and the money gets smaller and smaller. We are still looking for a 10 positions to fill so if you have any friends in other communities that has a school then let them know about this program and have them email me. I can help that person connect with the education department and see what can be done. The hiring has to come from the community level because the community knows it's own community best. I can't just come in and boss people around (from the internet no less) lol so yup thanks for posting your activity reports and thanks for sending your time sheets on time. Makes my job easier!
