One Book One Community

Honour the Sun is written by Ruby Slipperjack and was first published in 1987. The book tells a story of an Aboriginal girl's experience of growing into a mature young woman on a reserve in Northern Ontario. Despite all the turmoils and tribulations in her life, her mother's words always give her the strength and courage, "Honour the Sun, child. Just as it comes over the horizon, honour the Sun, that it may bless you, come another day..."
