As I was looking at the Georgina Island First Nation community website I came across PDF versions of several of their newsletters. After only looking at one (May 2007) I began to see these as excellent avenues of exchange.
Newsletters and First Nations newspapers are common and widely read on many levels (local, regional, national). The obvious opportunity is for the community outreach group, but I think the digital contents and community research groups could also benefit from reading a few samples from each level.
For example, the May 2007 Georgina Isl. newsletter promotes a Summer Learning Program for two groups of students: 1) students who hadn't achieved passing grades, and 2) students making the transition into grade nine.
Opportunities - grassroots communication - identification of local interests/concerns
Thanks, this is a good idea for Promo&Com too as we are interested in avenues by which we could provide info about ODBS. What would be great would be seeing the newsletters produced from the communities we know we will we working with although I realize that they may not be identified at this point.
