Review and Reflection

Good Afternoon!!

It has been a real pleasure getting to know the people in the Youth ICT Program (even if it was all through a chat room :P). The program has given me a fundamental experience that has greatly increased my potential within my community. As this program comes to a close I can see many windows of oportunity coming my way. I have learned a lot about working with my community members both children, other youth and adults.

During my internship I learned a great deal of technical information that I was able to use to help out around Walpole Island Elementary school. The school is dealing with older technologies that required me to buff up on some older information. I provided classroom assistance to the instructor, filled in for the office receptionist, and created a drupal website for the school.

At the close of this program I will remain at WIES as the school IT. My duties will continue as they are with maintaining the website and training the staff to use the website. An exciting addition to what I do for WIES will be to start an afterschool program for Digital Story Telling!

Its been a slice working with KNET, WIES and other members of YICT program! I hope you all had a Rawesome time. Live long and prosper.

Hi Ashley

I'm happy to hear that you will be continuing to do the awesome work at Walpole Island Elementary School! I was speaking with Russ last week and he mentioned that he was looking for other funding to help keep you on.  He sounded very happy about all the work you have done thus far.  Please remember that KNet Helpdesk is still open to you  if you need assistance.  Just shoot me an email and I'll connect you to the proper technician at our office.

Woo! Congrats Ashley, I wish you good luck in your future career endeavours.

I too will stay with the school, OHS as IT and my work load may even spread to the neighbouring reserve's school.
Though more self training is needed, I will continue to procure the education and experience I need for the career path laid out for me.

Hi Casper

What's your neighbouring community?
Most of the computer technicians I know are self taught.  It's a tough industry to start up in our Native communities but it's worth it. Everyone needs to be friends with a computer guy.
