High speed internet on its way to rural Manitoba | |
Mar. 19, 2012 According to an article in Portage La Prarie news, high-speed internet infrastructure (4G WiMAX) is being built in rural Manitoba, in part through funding from Broadband Canada. The article notes: [T]housands of rural Manitoba will be going online in 2012 thanks to the new 4G WiMAX broadband network currently being offered by NetSet Communications. The NetSet Communications 4G WiMAX broadband network has been built with the assistance of a cost-sharing agreement with Industry Canada through its Broadband Canada: Connecting Rural Canadians program. As a result more than 22,000 households across Manitoba will have access. “This new build is focused on under served and unserviced areas. By definition we’re going into places where people are coming from dial up or they’re coming from slower wireless providers who have other speeds but they don’t meet the Industry Canada definition of broadband services,” said Scott Toderash, director of enterprise solutions for NetSet Communications. The service will offer high speed internet to more than 200 communities with 50 new tower sites, and over 100 upgraded existing sites. Read the full article here. |
