Internet service expands at Xit’olacw | |
An article in the Whistler Question describes the arrival of broadband in the Mount Currie subdivision of Xit’olacw. Funded through the Pathways to Technology initiative in B.C., the project was undertaken by the Lil'wat Nation. While broadband was previously installed at the Xit’olacw Community School and Mount Currie Health Centre, as of April 3 local residents can also access high-speed connectivity. This Internet access will be managed by Lil’wat Business Corporations, a branch of the Band that will administer the broadband connection and invoice community members. Chief Lucinda Phillips is quoted in the article as saying: “Finally, we’re in the 21st century of the technology world...A lot of my members are so excited. Not only is our membership happy, but we really needed it for our local school and the health centre...and now our individual homes are just now being connected...I think it’s going to enhance everything — people’s everyday living, getting in touch with the world.”
