The Diabetexts registration process
by Brian Beaton - Friday, 19 November 2010, 07:17 AM

After reading the Fort Severn report I think I went thru the registration process that seems to be open to anyone and everyone. Even though I live in Sioux Lookout, I selected Fort Severn as the community where I want to receive my messages from. Some questions and coments about the registration process:

  • I was not too sure how the registration process worked because it has two options ... Registration AND Completed the questionnaire. The Registration line is not a live link so I completed the questionnaire. Is this all that is needed to register for the messages?
  • Can I register in each First Nation to recieve the messages from all the communities by completing the registration form 5 times and selecting a different community each time?
  • Who gets this information and where will it be stored?
  • After completing the registration questions, the link back to the Diabetexts site does not work properly.
  • Because the announcement for the AGFA competition is in the same box as the Registration process and there is no link on the AGFA image, it almost looks like I might be registering for the competition [smiles].

I hope this helps ...

Hey Brian,

Thanks again for the questions. Here are my responses respectively to your questions:

· When you click the “register” button it asks you to “answer the questions” and then filling in the questionnaire will register the number in the system.

· Well...yes and no. The way the registration works on the site works is that individuals send in their responses to the questionnaire, one question is of course what their cell phone number is. I then forward the responses to the appropriate diabetes worker, and then they register the number into their mailing system.  Potentially I could forward your number into the databank of the community workers as well...

· Both the diabetes workers and I receive the information – responses are securely stored within the site as a moodle feedback response.

· Fixed that – thank you for pointing that out!

· Fixed that – thank you for pointing that out!

Again, this is a great opportunity to discuss a proper research protocol for DiabeTEXTs with KORI or NOSM. If qualitative or quantitative evidence from this report could be extracted, it would help greatly for funding for more mobile initiatives for addictions, sexual health, or other chronic diseases.

Thanks again for your questions!
