Hi - Tanya Wasacase and I will be travelling from Fredericton, New Brunswick to Fort Severn for the VideoCom project. We work for the National Research Council / University of New Brunswick. This will be my second visit and Tanya's first. My first visit was in March this year with a large team from VideoCom. During that visit, we conducted interviews with 42 community members about their use of information and communication technologies (ICT). So far we have co-written one paper from this research, available from the VideoCom site. The paper writing was led by VideoCom team member Kerri Gibson, and Roseanne Miles, the Community Telehealth Coordinator from Fort Severn, was a co-author along with others.

For our upcoming visit in November, we have several activities in mind:

  1. Co-writing a paper on Keewaytinook Mobile in Fort Severn. I will be the lead author, with co-authors George Kakekespan, Brian Walmark and Raymond Mason. We will have a community feedback session for anyone else who wants to participate.
  2. A workshop on research and research ethics to learn from community members what they would like from VideoCom researchers and other researchers before, while and after the community visits.
  3. A national virtual meeting - to be confirmed - on Connectivity Policy for First Nations and Inuit Communities.

We look forward to being and working with Franz, Donald, Harvey and community members during our visit.

Thanks, Susan
