Gayle's Proposal development strategy
by Brian Beaton - Thursday, 8 April 2010, 06:49 AM

Gayle … Thanks for this proposal development strategy that you posted … Click here to see a copy of this document.

One item that still seems to be a huge gap in all this planning is being able to match graduate students and their profs with the different areas of research interest. It is one thing to be thinking about all these different areas but we need to be practical in knowing what areas of interests can be covered by the academic environment that match community needs …

I have yet to see or hear how this match up is going to be happening in a practical way. In my mind, I would think that we need to begin to know what areas of research interest are going to be supported by the academic institutions in this project and which communities and communities of interest can support this research …

Or maybe I am missing something here ...

Brian

I agree with Brian that we need to flesh out potential research projects among the team. I have no idea yet who I might partner with in my area. So to begin, I would like to see a project on how northern communities are adapting (i.e. demonstrating relience) to changing forestry conditions--economic, social and environmental (including carbon storage issues, so addressing the "post-carbon era" issue). I have a PhD student working with me, Lynn Palmer, who has also been a member of this group, that I would like to see funded through the project, and I have multiple community connections across the province through the Northern Ontario Sustainable Communities Partnership. Do we need to bring more of these kinds of ideas forward in order to give people the go-ahead to develop proposals that could be considered and then approved for inclusion in the final CURA proposal?
