PLEASE NOTE: If you get this email anytime before the evening of Monday May 5th, there are still ways you can help!!! Read on...
As most of you know, youth from Grassy Narrows First Nation are currently walking 1,800+ from Kenora to Toronto to raise awareness about logging that is happening in their traditional territory. I just received a call for help from them (they're currently in Upsala), and in turn, I am asking you for help.
I am just about to move out of my apartment, so its totally cleared out, which means I have space on my floors for them to sleep. They'll arrive tomorrow (Saturday, May 4), and will leave in the morning of Monday May 5. Since all my stuff is already moved out, I am asking you to lend me:
- blankets - pillows - towels - food
I stress the term "lend me" because I will need you to collect your blankets/pillows/towels immediately, as I will be leaving town the morning after the walkers leave. Also, I'm looking for volunteers to help me clean-up afterwards, because I need to move out of my apartment just after the walkers.
FURTHERMORE - the walkers have asked for cash donations to help them buy food and rent hotel rooms on their way to Toronto. They've asked me to put together fundraiser for Sunday. I won't be able to lead a fundraiser, since I'm having my last family get-together before I move away. I'm not sure what to do on such short notice, but one idea is to have a side event at the folklore festival happening this weekend. Can anyone lead on this??? This is URGENT.
I will be accepting donations for the walkers from now until they leave. My address is 432 Catherine Street, Apartment 6, Thunder Bay. My home phone number is (807) 577-0989 (leave a message if I'm not home).
Lets come together and give the people of Grassy Narrows the support and care they need on their walk for Mother Earth!
We need a route so that people will know which way and where the stops are .... where to send funds for those who can help with cash. Where is the next stop ??
