This contest reminded me of some of our ideas for promoting the project. We (Digital Contents team) will explore the content that is available on the site. I thought you might find the partnerships and approach to outreach helpful.
Thanks for the link, Jesslyn. It's very interesting to see the corporate sponsors involved!
Perhaps you already know, but I'll write this for ppl curious about corporate partnerships... With names like DeBeers and Embridge, if you don't have any insider connections, the application process is a long process, minimum 4-6 weeks, but it's always longer in my experience. Corps get totally hammered w/these kinds of requests so it's understandable. These sites generally have a long online application in which you need to specify how much $ you are asking for, exactly how you are going to spend the $, what benchmarks you'll meet to prove that your initiative has been successful and of course, what are you going to do for the corporation?? The better you can answer those questions, esp the last one, the more likely you'll stand out from the gazillion other cookie cutter applications they have to go through.
As for APTN, and Aboriginal Link, I am not sure what that is like, but worth exploring. Maybe later down the road, those working on the project can feel out any personal connections K-net might have b/c that always makes things more productive. Canada Council for the Arts I've also never tried, maybe someone here has experience with that? One major factor w/BG is, b/c Kitty's library is in a school, I'm not sure funders will go for that b/c the school gets provincial funding(? or ppl will assume); we'd need to ask whether the library is funded as a public one (better for getting funding), a school one (good luck) or some kind of hybrid (? not sure how that would work).
fyi, I've spoken to Kitty but I've been calling it scrapbook so maybe we can all stick to scrapbook so things don't get confusing for her.
Interesting information about corporate sponsorship.
When I posted this I was thinking more about the process of developing a nation-wide contest. They have obviously been able to secure some mega sponsors. It could be interesting to learn from the people who are behind this contest.
