This presentation was remotely delivered by the First Mile to Youth ICT participants at the Cisco Networking Academy Conference held March 4-5, in First Nations communities in Saskatchewan. This session covered the First Mile concept and presented examples of First Mile videos.

We invited participants to contribute their own First Mile story in a blog post or video.

Rachel Peterson is a 2012-2013 Thomas J. Watson Fellow. She is researching how indigenous peoples harness new forms of technology to further their rights, cultural expression, and sovereignty. One of her field sites is the village of Igloolik in Nunavut.

This presentation was the first of two sessions remotely delivered by the First Mile to Youth ICT participants in First Nations communities in Saskatchewan. This session covered the First Mile concept and involved discussions about First Mile videos (including a presentation of John's short documentary about the Blood Tribe/Kanai Community Network).

The second presentation (archived session unavailable) was held November 29, 2012. It was led by Seattle-based documentary filmmaker Sandy Cioffi. Sandy provided an overview of documentary storytelling, and provided many resources for First Mile video producers. These resources are available here.
