2010 – August – VideoCom is collaborating on a new SSHRC-funded initiative on Aboriginal Connectivity. The four-month project is led by Dr. Richard Smith at Simon Fraser University and Dr. Susan O'Donnell at the University of New Brunswick / National Research Council. Rob McMahon, a SFU PhD student and Jason Simmonds, a UNB PhD student and VIdeoCom team member, will be interviewing participants involved in Aboriginal connectivity across Canada and drafting short stories of successful community-based use of broadband.
We are planning another visit to Northwestern Ontario, where we continue to work with our KO partners, KiHS, and Mishkeegogamang First Nation and Fort Severn First Nation to develop papers and presentations from our research in the communities earlier this year. We are also developing the Community Youth Video activity.
In Quebec, we are working with the First Nations Education Council and the Quebec Aboriginal Science Fair organization on a plan to support teachers and students in their development of science projects. More on that next month....
In the Atlantic region, we are working with our partner, Atlantic Canada’s First Nation Help Desk, on a report to understand how to improve the process for distance education between universities and First Nations communities.
If you have any comments, complaints, or suggestions contact the Moodle Master: (kerri.gibson@nrc.ca).
