We invite you to share your community First Mile story!

The First Mile website tells stories of First Mile technology projects from across Canada. It’s easy to submit a story. You can also add pictures or photos, and links to YouTube, Vimeo or other video-sharing sites.

Create Story

Need some help? Here's a quick tutorial on how to create your story.

1) If you haven't already done so, sign up for an account on the K-Net Meeting Place. [ click here to create a new account ]

2) Once you are logged in, return to this page and click the green button located above. This will open up a form. You can upload photos, type in text, add hyperlinks and include links to more information.

** We encourage you to link to videos uploaded to the http://media.knet.ca website. That is because the media files are then hosted on First Nations infrastructure. This is instead of third-party sites like YouTube or Vimeo. Click here for a PowerPoint on how to do this. **

4) Let us know when you have added your story: send us an email at info@firstmile.ca

Want to embed K-Net-hosted videos on your community story page? Here's how to do it.

CLICK HERE to download a PowerPoint tutorial on uploading videos.

1) Decide where in your entry you'd like the video to show up. I have decided that I would like my video to show up directly after the first lines of text.

2) Type a period (".") where you'd like your video. If you'd like it left-biased, leave it as is. If you'd like it centred, click on the 'centre text' button (A) or the right-biased button if you want it to sit on the right side of the page.

Placing the period

3) Highlight the period (A) and clink on the link button (B - the one that looks like a chain).

4) A box will pop up asking you what you want to link to.

5) Open a new window and find the "Video File" link for the video you have uploaded to K-Net on the K-Net video site.

Video Link

6) Copy the URL for the video link. You can do this by right clicking (using the right button on your mouse) on the link. A box will pop up; look for "Copy link address" or "Copy target link" or something to that effect. Click on it.

7) Return to the First Mile window paste the link into the box that is asking you for a link. You can do this by making sure the cursor (the mouse arrow) is inside the the URL box and click CTRL V (Windows) or Command V (Mac). Alternately, you can also right click with your mouse again and select 'Paste.'

Paste link

8) Finish writing your article and click 'Save and View' at the bottom of the page.

Save and view

9) The video will now show up on your article as a blank video box. Hit play and it should play normally!
