The meeting that i attended in Red Lake was called "White Feather Forest" The meeting was basically about how they (MNR) will be implementing a plan to cut down trees in and around the Pikangikum area. (the White Feather Forest)
i guess they had already asked the surrounding communities to write down and map their burial areas and special places. for example: traplines, fish spawning areas, cabins, eagles nests, etc etc. these places will be specified AOC (areas of concern)
i was surprised by the details of the meeting. i for one have never even heard of this plan until tuesday. they said that the plan has been in place for ten years. MNR plans to have this underway by April 1st 2012.
Ministry of Natural Resources also talked about Silviculture, which is the art and science used to grow healthy trees in stands, forests and landscapes.
I think why are they cutting down the trees, just to make new ones? what is wrong with the trees we have now?
Well there is so much more that i dont even know where to start... i just really dont think this is right....
