Library services in remote and rural communities
by Brian Beaton - Tuesday, 30 March 2010, 06:59 AM

Good morning team ... Yesterday Brian Walmark and I participated in a one day workshop entitled "Reading in First Nations - Infrastructures, Access, Imagination" - visit http://odbs.knet.ca for more information about this event. The session was archived and will be made available from the web in the near future.

There was participant from Ontario Library Services North - http://www.olsn.ca - who shared about their project that is piloting the distribution of books through an online connection.

It seems to me that public library services in remote and rural communities is a MAJOR gap in services that needs to be addressed to support a healthy community. Has OLSN been invited to participate in this NCTR initiative? Should they be invited? Is there anyone doing any research in this field within the northern institutions?

Brian
