Capacity Development and the need to increase new employment opportunities at the communty level are critical... People have so many stories to tell about their lives, their families and their work... The people living in remote and isolated First Nations communities in Ontario's far north have honed their skills as story-tellers for countless generations... The migration of broadband to the north and such applications such as IP video have encouraged new generations of community members to find new ways to tell and share their stories with not only their friends and family but with other remote and isolated Indigenous communities near and far...

The NICSN project will add another way to tell those stories with numbers instead of words... It’s another way to communicate which is getting more and more important especially for funders who are demanding aggregate data to determine who gets funded and who does not...

Just as earlier training programmes facilitated by K-Net supported the transfer of computer and networking skills to youth living in many First Nations youth in Ontario, the NICSN project will promote the transfer of valuable skills in research, data collection, and soft ware applications such as spreadsheets and databases...
