K'atl'odeeche First Nation Fiber Optic Construction (2011)
Tuesday, 29 October 2013, 05:16 PM In 2011, Katlodeeche First Nation completed the construction of its local broadband fiber optic network. This short four minute video documents the project. It was shot on location and edited by KFN's IT Project Manager, Lyle Fabian.

B.C. Communities prepare for National Satellite Initiative Transition
Monday, 18 March 2013, 11:23 AM In British Columbia, the First Nations Emergency Services Society of BC (FNESS), the First Nations’ Technology Council (FNTC), and a satellite service provider, Norsat International Inc. have provided 17 remote First Nations satellite-served communities with Internet access since 2008. As of March 31, 2014, the NSI funding is scheduled to end. This has resulted in the need for communities in B.C. to consider how to undertake this transaction. FNTC is working with various First Nations to manage this longevity planning. Read more...

Slate Falls First Nation: From Satellite to Fibre for e-Community Connectivity
Tuesday, 11 December 2012, 02:36 PM Slate Falls First Nation is one of the 26 communities involved with the Northwestern Ontario Broadband Expansion Initiative to construct a Bell Aliant fibre network. Slate Falls recently switched from a satellite connection to a new fibre optic connection. In this video, community members talk about the importance of broadband to the operations of the community. They also address the importance of offering services at the local level in order to keep money within the community.

Saugeen Driftwood: The Saugeen First Nation Fibre-optic Network
Saturday, 8 December 2012, 08:48 PMSaugeen Driftwood is the name of Saugeen First Nation's Fibre Optic broadband network. Prior to the installation of the new network, Saugeen was only able to access low-speed DSL with a connection speed of 1mb/s, and many homes outside the main village were only able to access 56kb/s dialup. Now, each home has access to about 60mb/s.

Saint Elizabeth First Nations, Inuit and Metis Program: @YourSide Colleague ®
Saturday, 8 December 2012, 08:01 PM@YourSide Colleague is a knowledge-sharing platform provided by the First Nations, Inuit and Metis (FNIM) program at Saint Elizabeth to health care providers working in FNIM communities across Canada. The program provides access to 11 internet based professional development courses at no cost to providers working for or with FNIM communities. It is used by more than 1300 health care workers in over 350 communities and organizations across Canada, and that number continues to grow.

First Mile Video: Seabird Island Connectivity Story
Friday, 21 September 2012, 06:59 PMIn 2007, the Seabird Island Band launched a wireless broadband network to provide services to their community members. Seabird Wi-fi is fully owned and operated by the band, and receives no external funding. It connects local services such as health and education. It also provides community members with access to low cost broadband services.
